Former SNP health secretary Jeane Freeman has expressed disagreement with Humza Yousaf's plan to freeze council tax. Yousaf, the current SNP leader, announced the freeze during his party's conference in Aberdeen.
The plan involves keeping council tax rates at their current levels when councils set their budgets for 2024-25. Freeman, who served as health secretary during the COVID-19 pandemic, stated that while she could see the sense in freezing council tax for lower bands, she personally did not need her bill to be frozen. Local authority body Cosla also criticized the move, stating that it was made without agreement from councils and undermined previous council tax freezes.
