Ex-Cabinet Minister Nadine Dorries Refuses to Resign, Demands Answers for Peerage Denial

Nadine Dorries, a former cabinet minister and Boris Johnson ally, announced that she will not resign from her Mid Bedfordshire seat until she receives more information on why she was denied a peerage.

She accused Rishi Sunak's team of removing her name from Johnson's resignation honours list and requested correspondence and other data related to her nomination for the House of Lords.

The prime minister's press secretary said it is important for Dorries' constituents to have "certainty," and the by-elections to replace her and Nigel Adams, another Johnson ally who also resigned, were triggered on Wednesday.

While Dorries remains an MP, she can use parliamentary privilege to speak out on any issue without fear of legal consequences.

If she delays her resignation, it could force the Conservatives into a potentially divisive by-election later on.
