A defense ministry spokesperson admitted the possibility of the air force conversation being intercepted. On Russian social media, journalist Margarita Simonyan released an audio file supposedly disclosing German officials' strategies, including targeting the Crimea bridge. However, Reuters could not verify the recording’s authenticity.
The Russian embassy in Berlin has yet to comment on the espionage allegations, but the Russian foreign ministry demands explanations from Germany. Meanwhile, accusations of German vulnerability in security have emerged.
If verified, Russian espionage may represent an attempt to influence decisions and manipulate the German stance on the Ukraine conflict. Germany’s political figures stress the need for heightened security and counterintelligence measures.
