Eurostar, operating from London St Pancras, and Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, operating vehicle transport from Folkestone, were both interrupted. Midday disruptions led to at least 30 Eurostar cancellations, with trains returning to their departure points.

An agreement between Eurotunnel management and unions was announced, signaling a gradual resumption of services with Eurostar expected to follow the next morning.

Getlink, overseeing Channel Tunnel operations, mentioned that union bonus demands were triple the offered €1,000.

Additionally, railway services from London Euston faced temporary halts due to overhead line issues near Watford Junction, and fallen trees near King's Cross caused severe delays.

Amid these disruptions, passengers grappled with finding alternative travel options, with partial recovery at Euston by late afternoon.

Meanwhile, Storm Pia impacted flights, with some rerouted and British Airways canceling flights. Remarkable footage captured a plane's tricky landing in Birmingham under 50mph crosswinds, successfully touching down after an initial failed attempt.

High winds hit 115mph at Cairngorm Summit and 81mph at Brizlee Wood, leading to power outages for around 40,000 homes, mostly resolved by evening.

A man in Derbyshire was hospitalized after a tree fell on his car, among other similar incidents during the storm.

Storm Pia, named by Danish meteorologists, is poised to move towards mainland Europe, with the Met Office predicting more intense effects there.
