EU Leaders Considering Ukraine's Membership Bid: Negotiations Expected in December

The European Parliament President, Roberta Metsola, has expressed her desire for the European Union to start serious negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership bid in mid-December this year.

Metsola believes that Ukraine's efforts on reforms have been extraordinary and if the reform criteria have been met, the EU should respond.

However, the decision to start the next phase of talks lies with the European Council, which has the whip hand on EU foreign policy matters.

Ukrainian member of parliament David Arakhamia hopes that talks will start this year, as he believes it will give hope to the Ukrainian people fighting every day.

Metsola is optimistic about the statements made by leaders and believes that the December European Council could be the place where the step towards EU membership can be taken.
