EU and UK Urge Israel to Act Against Rising West Bank Settler Violence Amid Regional Tensions

European governments call for stronger protection of civilians and accountability after reports of a sharp increase in attacks on Palestinian communities.
European governments have urged Israel to take immediate action to halt a surge in violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, warning that the situation has intensified amid the broader regional conflict involving Iran.

Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom issued a joint diplomatic appeal calling on Israel to uphold international law and ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians.

The statement condemned what officials described as a “massive increase” in settler attacks targeting Palestinian communities, including incidents of arson, assaults and property destruction.

The appeal follows a series of reported attacks in villages and rural areas across the West Bank, where tensions have risen sharply in recent weeks.

In one recent incident near Ramallah, armed settlers attacked a village during the night, leaving several Palestinians dead and others injured as violence escalated across the territory.

European officials said Israel has a responsibility to ensure law enforcement against perpetrators and to prevent further incidents.

They also stressed that the safety and stability of both Israelis and Palestinians depend on preventing cycles of retaliation and maintaining order in the region.

The diplomatic intervention comes at a time when global attention has been focused on the widening confrontation between Israel and Iran.

Analysts note that the broader regional conflict has heightened tensions and drawn international attention away from developments in the West Bank, where clashes and attacks have continued to rise.

Data from international monitoring groups indicates that violence linked to Israeli settlers has increased significantly in recent years.

Hundreds of incidents have been recorded annually, including attacks on farms, homes, livestock and vehicles belonging to Palestinian residents.

European governments reiterated their support for Israel’s security while urging authorities to ensure accountability for criminal acts and to prevent the further escalation of violence in the territory.

Officials also warned that continued instability in the West Bank risks undermining diplomatic efforts aimed at long-term peace and regional stability.

Diplomats across Europe say they will continue engaging with Israeli officials and regional partners to reduce tensions and encourage steps that protect civilians and prevent the conflict from spreading further.

The renewed calls from European governments highlight the growing international concern that the volatile situation in the West Bank could worsen as the wider Middle East conflict evolves.
