Englishman found dead during hike to Yellow Dragon Stream

A 51-year-old Englishman who went missing since Saturday during a solo hike to Yellow Dragon Stream on Lantau Island was found dead on Wednesday afternoon.
It was understood that the man was a product designer and he lived in Sai Wan on Hong Kong Island. The incident has also been reported to the British Consulate-General Hong Kong.

The police received the report from his wife who lives in Taiwan in the early hours on Wednesday, and conducted a large-scale search in the morning with firemen and officers from the Civil Aid Service.

His family who live in the UK said that they failed to contact him since last Saturday where he told them he would go hiking alone at Yellow Dragon Stream on Lantau Island.

Yet the family have not heard from him since then, neither has his wife. Although his wife had asked friends in Hong Kong to look for him at his home, no one answered the door. His colleagues also found out that he didn't go to work on Monday and Tuesday.

He wife then reported the incident to police at 1.42am on Wednesday.

The crew in the morning gathered at Wong Lung Hang and initiated the manhunt. Helicopters were sent to the scene to look for him from the sky as well.

Officers later located his body around 5pm at a valley near the stream. He was rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital but he was soon certified dead. According to medics he had passed away for a few days.

This Englishman is the second hiker confirmed dead today, following the death of another hiker who passed away after he felt heart pain when hiking at Lai Chi Chong in Sai Kung this afternoon.

That man was hiking with his friend around 3pm when he felt unwell and lost his consciousness. Although rushed to Eastern Hospital, he was later certified dead as well.
