Former British Prime Minister Elizabeth Truss, speaking at the HT Leadership Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, advocated for transformative reforms in the UK, likening them to the movements initiated by Donald Trump in the United States.

Truss suggested the need for a 'British Trump' to inspire major changes within the UK's bureaucratic systems and economic policies.

She highlighted the UK's potential benefits from a trade deal with India, emphasising areas like technology, defence, and agriculture.

Truss, who held the office as Prime Minister for 49 days in 2022, described the current UK-India relationship as positive and stressed the opportunity for mutual growth.

She praised India's role in international geopolitics as the world's largest democracy and noted its participation in the Quad as significant amid rising global tensions, particularly with China.

Truss also expressed her concerns about the European economy, urging the UK to abandon EU regulations and seek new trade agreements, especially with the US and India.

She remarked on the growing global influence of authoritarian regimes and differentiated between the democratic values of India and the authoritarian stance of China.

Additionally, Truss acknowledged the achievements of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in securing a third term, pointing to the economic optimism under his leadership.

Her comments came amid her critique of European economic stagnation and a positive view of Trump's influence on American politics.
