They opposed any attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause and emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, sustainable humanitarian aid access, and the protection of civilians.

The leaders stressed the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy, aiming for a fair peace in the region. Their discussions are part of ongoing efforts by Egypt and Qatar to mediate a humanitarian truce in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of captives. This includes their recent success in securing the release of two Israeli captives for humanitarian reasons.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a conflict that escalated on October 7 with a Hamas attack on Israel, leading to significant casualties on both sides, including around 11,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 26,000 injuries.
