Laura Helmuth, the editor-in-chief of Scientific American, has resigned after controversial social media posts labeled Trump supporters as 'fascists.' Helmuth announced her departure after 4.5 years in the role, citing a desire to reflect on her next steps.

Her resignation follows posts made on Bluesky after the November 5 presidential election, where she criticized Indiana and X users reacted sharply.

Scientific American, an esteemed publication founded in 1845, first endorsed a presidential candidate in 2020, supporting Joe Biden over Trump.

Despite Helmuth's attempts to retract her statements and affirm non-partisan respect, her comments, described as an expression of shock, led to criticism for politicizing the magazine.

This development comes after Elon Musk, a Trump supporter, suggested a change in magazine management following unrelated critiques of an article.

Kimberly Lau, the magazine’s president, acknowledged Helmuth's contributions to enhancing their digital presence and leading the institution to win significant science communication awards.
