Bus drivers in London are having to slam on the brakes to avoid colliding with e-scooters, e-bikes, and pedestrians, according to bus operators.

They particularly highlighted concerns about e-bikes that have been illegally modified to exceed the legal speed limit of 15.5 mph, with some reported to travel at over 50 mph.

Pedestrians engrossed in their mobile phones and not paying attention to traffic were also mentioned as contributing to accidents.

Transport for London data showed that in the 2022-23 period, there were 16 people killed and 220 seriously injured in or by a bus. Bus operators criticized the failure to meet safety targets in reducing deaths and serious injuries.
