Dramatic dust devils, initially thought to be mini-tornadoes, were filmed on Saturday in Essex and Cambridgeshire.

These whirlwind phenomena caused minor injuries and uprooted tents and gazebos during the Four Colnes Horticultural Society Programme in Essex.

Another dust devil was witnessed in Wistow, between Cambridge and Peterborough.

Unlike tornadoes, dust devils grow from the ground upwards and last only for a few minutes.

Susan Freear, manager at the Earls Colne Recreation Ground, described how the sudden gust lifted gazebos and tents, leading to minor injuries.

Amanda Jerrom, a resident of Cambridgeshire, captured the event on film, noting it was an unprecedented sight.
