The CEO of Duolingo, a language learning app, has stated his intention to help promote the Welsh language, despite the app pausing its Welsh course and redirecting resources to more popular courses.
Duolingo's decision to halt updates to the Welsh course led to concerns and a petition from users who feared it would stagnate. In a letter to a Labour MP who had expressed concerns about the move, Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn stated that the company would be in touch with her and the Welsh government's Education Minister.
While no commitments have been made, von Ahn expressed hope that they could find a way to continue supporting the Welsh language, which is a key government goal to reach one million Welsh speakers by 2050.
