Dozens of dead wild animals dumped outside Hampshire shop

Police are probing a macabre incident in Hampshire where roughly 50 hares, a kestrel, and a barn owl were found dead at Broughton Community Shop.

The unsettling scene discovered by staff included the animals' bodies, bloodied windows, and birds stuffed onto door handles.

This event is reminiscent of a previous atrocity, where hares, pheasants, and a beheaded deer were left near an Awbridge school. Speculations point towards hare coursers from Salisbury Plain, notorious for broadcasting their illegal activities.

Authorities are seeking the owners of a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara linked to the incident. Mike Hensman, the shop's treasurer, reported the distress this caused the staff, despite the entire atrocity being recorded on CCTV.

Broughton, an affluent, low-crime village frequented by many, is determined to remain undeterred by these events.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson confirmed the ongoing investigation. Despite legislative efforts, including new powers to curb hare coursing, the activity persists, driven by a network of crime gangs that use it for gambling, antagonizing local communities, and causing extensive damage.
