Dozens Killed in Strike on Russia-Held Ukrainian City of Lysychansk

At least 28 people were reported dead after a strike on a bakery in Lysychansk, an eastern Ukrainian city controlled by Russia. The site, which also contained the Adriatic restaurant, was struck on Saturday, reportedly killing soldiers, women, and a child.

Moscow attributes the attack to Ukrainian forces using Western weapons, labeling it a terrorist act. While Ukraine hasn't officially responded, online claims suggest Russian collaborators were present during the strike.

The leader of the Kremlin-backed Luhansk People's Republic confirmed the death of Emergency Situations Minister Alexey Poteleshchenko, who was celebrating his birthday at the location.

Russia's Foreign Ministry accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting the site, a popular spot for locals on Saturdays. These allegations, including the death toll, have not been confirmed by independent sources. Lysychansk has been under Russian control since July 2022.

Ukrainian President Zelensky made a frontline visit near Robotyne in the contested Zaporizhzhya region, awarding medals in what seemed to be a bunker, as he faces speculation over firing his chief military commander.

In an Italian TV interview, Zelensky hinted at broad leadership changes without naming individuals. Amid the war nearing its second anniversary, Ukraine's latest counter-offensive hasn't reclaimed significant territory from Russia.
