Dominic Cummings Alleges Sunak's Secret Request for Involvement in Election Strategy

Dominic Cummings, a former adviser to No 10, claims he discussed political strategies twice in the past year with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, focusing on how to overcome Labour.

In his blog, Cummings, who once worked closely with Boris Johnson, alleges that Sunak asked him to devise an election strategy in secret. However, Cummings rejected the offer as his terms were not agreed upon.

According to Downing Street, there was a general political conversation, but no formal job offer was made. Cummings, a key figure in the Brexit campaign, reports that Sunak proposed he help with political and communication tactics discreetly, with the potential for a No 10 comeback should the Conservatives triumph in the upcoming general election.

Cummings wanted immediate responses to major issues, such as revamping defense spending and pandemic preparedness, as well as broader government reform but felt his demands went unmet.

After initially parting ways with Johnson on bad terms, Cummings says he was contacted by Sunak in December and July. However, he found their discussions repetitive and disagreeable, ultimately declining involvement due to differing views and concern over political backlash. Cummings insists he's not interested in returning to his previous role but wants to address urgent matters.

During his 2022 leadership campaign, Sunak confirmed that Cummings would play no role in his administration. Labour and the Liberal Democrats have criticized Sunak for lacking original ideas and possibly breaching the Ministerial Code by not publicly disclosing his meetings with Cummings, amid public frustration over domestic issues.
