As part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival (GICF), dogs are auditioning for a role in the upcoming play 'Walking Shadows,' set to be performed at Websters Theatre.

The festival, which celebrates humor in various forms, has included this unique audition as part of its 2023 lineup.

The auditions are taking place ahead of the performances scheduled for March 21, 22, and 23. According to the show's writer and director, Michael Lewis, the role requires the dog to make a brief appearance on stage and perform a specific trick as part of the performance.

Lewis emphasized that the selection process will take into account not only the performance capabilities of the participating dogs but also what he termed the "cute factor," implying that the dog’s physical appeal will play a role in the decision.

He noted that he is seeking a canine that can create a positive impact upon entering the stage, describing the need for a dog with "a wee bit of star quality."

The GICF, which began in 2000, aims to showcase a diverse range of comedic talent and has included numerous formats and styles over the years.

The inclusion of dogs in a theatrical setting highlights the festival's innovation in engaging audiences with fresh and playful concepts.
