The care provider, Connected Health, has stated that they are struggling with staffing, resources, and funding, and as a result, they will be ending their care package for Mr. Calvert on December 1st. This has raised concerns about the capacity and funding issues within the health and social care system in Northern Ireland.
Mr. Calvert had relied on a daily visit from a care worker to help him with basic hygiene and personal care. His mother had provided this care for most of his life, but she became unable to continue in March of this year. A seven-day-a-week care package was then put in place, but it is now set to end in three weeks.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing consistent and adequate care services, as well as the broader issues of funding and resources in the healthcare system. Mr. Calvert and his supporters are advocating for increased funding and support for the care profession to address these challenges and ensure individuals like him can continue living independently.
