Conservative Politicians Stage Vigil at TVP HQ as Left Moves to Dismantle Country's Free Press

Poland's Conservative Law and Justice Party (PiS) members started a vigil at the national broadcaster TVP's headquarters, protesting the left-leaning Sejm's decision on media reform. PiS legislators, including their leader Jarosław Kaczyński, boycotted the voting session in the parliament to highlight the importance of media pluralism for democracy. Kaczyński argues that public media, currently serving as a counterbalance to the government, are essential for democracy and informed citizenship.

Accusing the resolution of being "Stalinist," PiS plans to have deputies rotate in guarding TVP to safeguard democracy and national independence amidst fears of a European federalization agenda. Kaczyński also alluded to Prime Minister Donald Tusk's perceived obligations to EU powers, suggesting his political fate hinges on fulfilling these tasks.
