The MAIN and probably only issue is monetary greed on the part of the "outfits" that operate. Lets face it - they will skin their grannys for sixpence, and the lifetyles of the directors says it all. Personal helicopters are becoming the norm. Repugnant to the working couple on the average joint wage facing the tight monetary times WE are experiencing. Regulatory legislation is the only remedy, and fast.

When you buy a caravan you are supposed to read the contract. In that contract it tells you how much your ground rent goes up by each year, usually in line with inflation and during covid inflation was sky high. What they sell you a van for is up to them in the same way as anything else you purchase. You agreed the price before purchasing it. Most problems come because people see the dream, don't do their homework, can't afford it in the first place and buy on the never never - finance. Its no good crying because you haven't done your due diligence! Its YOUR FAULT!! I have no affiliation with any park but I have had vans for years.
Steve Marshall 28 days ago
Mia, I 100% agree with this!!!!! These 'butt-hurt' action groups can barely string a proper sentence together, so how can we expect them to actually read their agreements? THEN, they go off and make their weekend plans to harass holiday parks and brag about it! They are just as disgusting as they make out these bad parks to be!

What happens when these parks these groups are harassing, file a counter lawsuit against them for slander and defamation? Especially when some of them are targeting the wrong (and honest) parks, causing them loss of sales and reduction in staff because of their bad experience with another park? Do they realise the impact they have on employment for certain tourism areas and the families who are trying to earn an honest living?

If I had a bad experience with a Honda dealership in Scotland, am I going to slag off all Honda dealerships across the UK? NO! I agree that some parks can be questionable, BUT there are honest parks out there and these people need to do their homework before signing on the dotted line.

Perhaps, these action groups need to be more regulated to control the misinformation, hate speech and slander they spread, in order to protect the good parks?

D Hilton the main problem is the salesperson will tell you what you need to here they will not tell you what happens if you end up having to sell because they are ripping you off if tens of thousands of pounds so no one can say you knew what you were buying into that’s wrong in there eyes if they are selling you a caravan it’s worth 60k 2 years later you need to sell that same caravan is worth 12k then up to 3k for disconection fees so then that same caravan stays on its plot then gets sold for 60k because the salesperson says that’s how much it is worth the same caravan which has not been moved but the previous owner has been charged 3k for disconnection fees so he has been conned out of 3k that is called being conned
Adrian Bryce 29 days ago
Those not condemning caravan parks for their underhanded repugnant treatinment of owners are obviously shills for the caravan industry, it's common knowledge of the unscrupulous manner in which these parks are run.
D Hilton 29 days ago
I am bored with people that complain about losing money when they have obviously enjoyed the holidays they have had but don’t want to pay they are like dine and dashers bottom feeders if you ask me
D Hilton 29 days ago
The best thing I did was buy a static holiday caravan and sell my house, I would recommend this to anyone Live Life you only have the one!

Or you can be a miserable sod and constantly complain about what things cost and complain because others can afford what you can’t you decide it’s your life

Your caravan sales manager will be proud of you keeping up the flow of fake news.
Annon 29 days ago
It is quite clear that this “industry” is working without any “governance” by any official dept.
There is restrictive trading where only site spproved “tradesmen” are allowed on site. The practice where a caravan is purchased for example £50k and used by the purchaser for say 5 years. During that time the “cost” of keeping that caravan on the site has doubled and can no longer be afforded by the owner. The owner is “cajoled” into selling the caravan back to the site for less than 10% of what the owner paid. The owner is told that they need to pay for the “disconnection and removal” of the van from the site (costs could exceed £3000). The van doesn’t move but goes back on sale for say £45000. Once sold the site has made a healthy profit of £40,000 plus the £3k charged for the non existing cost of disconnecting the van and moving it off site. If you need to see any more examples of “dubious trading” please join Holiday Park Action Group and ensure that all your friends and neighbours do the same. You will be astonished! 😡

That's an accurate summation of what so many thousands of caravan owners experience, as a caravan owner myself, I've seen this happen numerous times, there's absolutely no empathy for those whose personal loss of ill health have forced them to sell up, in fact they're looked at as an easy touch, and robbed blind. Anyone dissenting from this belief are lying toe rags working for the industry.
Elaine Massey 29 days ago
I agree with HPAG that people buying caravans are going into an unregulated industry. Buying caravans at inflated prices & when they cannot afford hiked fees have to sell their asset back at a massive loss, only for their asset to resold at an inflated price.
Another issue is when a new unscrupulous owner purchases the caravan site & issues notices to remove assets - caravans etc, bringing in new rules so the purchaser suffers financial losses.

Yes this industry needs regulating but the government will not listen to aggrieved caravan owners.

I love my caravan and i love caravan parks, ignore the ney sayers as clearly those that are complaining expect site fees to be free? Caravans are great and good value for money i highly reccomend a uk caravan holiday, if you have never tried it give it a go! Or is the problem that caravans are a uk holiday for uk born people my family have had caravans for generations, and the caravans today are more like houses than caravans if you ask me

Stop gypsies running sites don't give them licences it's them that are ripping people off
James M 29 days ago
I think it’s ridiculous that caravan parks are not free why should we have to pay ground rent to put our caravans on others land we have bought our caravans so we should get it for free that why I support the action, it’s not for me to pay rent on land I don’t own just so a landlord can make money ok they may look after the land and provide facilities but that should be free join our group help shut down the parks
Mia Ward 29 days ago
You happily use the services though, don't you? Why should a land owner giver you somewhere for free? How about those with entertainment on site? Do you expect that for free too? Its their land and they have every right to charge you to be on it! Don't like it? Don't do it!

This is great news, As we don’t want caravans in the U.K. join us and let’s get rid of caravans in the U.K. ! As I am tired of seeing families on our seafronts who come down for holidays let’s get rid of tourists and keep our areas for locals only join our action group
Carole K 24 days ago
So let us get this straight—you’re actually wishing for an entire country’s economy to suffer just because you had a bad experience at a particular park? That’s not just an overreaction; it’s incredibly self-centred and, quite honestly, disturbing.
Have you ever had a disappointing meal or a car that didn’t meet your expectations? Did you then condemn every restaurant or car dealership because of it? Highly unlikely.

Tourism is a vital lifeline for millions of people in the UK—families, small businesses, local workers—and you want to see all of them struggle because of your personal grudge? That’s not justice or accountability, that’s pure spite!

Your malice just makes you sound like a sad, bitter, entitled, and completely out of touch old woman, hell-bent on bringing people down to your disgusting level. Shame on you. Be careful these parks don’t sue you for slander and defamation.
Real truth 29 days ago
Usual scare mongering fake news! Should say caravan owners told to fake information to try and get refund after using their caravans for many years imo

The industry is an unregulated license to steal. Unscrupulous robbery of society’s most vulnerable. Outrageous in 2025. Government intervention needed NOW !
a.nonymous 29 days ago
While it is understandable that some individuals may feel aggrieved by certain rules or decisions, many disputes stem from a failure to read or understand their licence agreements—documents that reputable parks provide transparently, outlining terms intended to protect all parties involved. Regardless of whatever words the said buyer wanted to hear, or was told, the rules (should have been) outlined clearly in their agreements—which they should have signed (with full knowledge and understanding!)
There is also an emergence of these said online action groups that actively plan and seek out holiday parks to harass and publicly discredit, often based on misinformation or personal grievances. They tarish the small, honest, family run parks with one brush. These groups have a one-sided narrative that overlooks the legal and operational realities of running a park. From a legal standpoint, it is important to recognize that there are always two sides to every story, and responsible discourse requires acknowledging both the contractual obligations of holiday home owners and the rights of parks to enforce their terms fairly.

My husband and I have suffered immensely at the hands of what can only be described as an unscrupulous and exploitative industry. What began as the pursuit of a peaceful retirement dream quickly turned into a financial and emotional nightmare—one that has left us both mentally and financially scarred.

We were misled into entering an extortionate credit agreement for a static home. By the company’s own admission, figures on the credit application were manipulated to such an extent that approval could be obtained—approval that, under honest circumstances, would never have been granted. This deceitful practice not only cost us thousands of pounds, but also left us burdened with long-term financial repercussions.

Within just two years, due to the economic impact of lockdowns and escalating living costs, it became painfully clear that our dream was never going to be sustainable. We were forced to give up our static home, which came at significant personal cost. Furthermore, we now live under the weight of a legal charge placed against our own home—an additional punishment for daring to believe in the false promises we were sold.

What was marketed to us as a life-enhancing opportunity turned out to be a devastating ordeal—one that has left lasting trauma and very nearly pushed us to the brink. The actions of this company have not only stripped us of financial security but have also inflicted deep emotional damage that we will carry for the rest of our lives.

We urge the appropriate authorities to investigate and hold to account those who prey on ordinary people’s hopes and dreams for personal gain. No one else should have to endure what we have

Full of a bunch of fools that jumped at the dream without reading a contract lol fools!
Mia Ward 29 days ago
Is that all, out of over half a million in the UK? There are more caravans than that in the area I have mine in so it just goes to show that a small portion of the caravan world is unhappy! All down to people thinking A. they can afford it, B. they don't read the contract and C. They didn't realise you have to work at getting renters and not just rely on paying the site to do that and cleaning it. Sorry, but what you are doing is wrong!

Paid £45000 borrowed from family as urgently needed somewhere to live, told worth nothing 20 months later, found out not allowed to live on a holiday park after told otherwise lost the lot. Join Holiday Park Action Group, on Facebook- make sure its the 'Action ' Group
Mia Ward 29 days ago
You CANNOT live on a holiday park. Why did you not do your homework? Just because a park says it is a 12 month site doesn't mean you can live on there. Councils have lists of parks that are residential.
