Ertan Ersoy, a 51-year-old man, has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Dr. Antonella Castelvedere, a university lecturer, in their kitchen in Colchester in 2022.
Prosecutors argued that the murder was motivated by "anger and jealousy" in the context of a "volatile, unstable, and rocky" relationship between the couple. Dr. Castelvedere had expressed fear for her life in a note on her phone a day before her murder.
Ersoy, who is also a university lecturer, admitted a lesser charge of manslaughter, but the plea was not accepted by prosecutors. He was unanimously found guilty of murder by the jury and is awaiting sentencing, which will likely result in a life jail term. Dr. Castelvedere suffered 15 stab injuries to her face, neck, upper chest, and hands during the incident.
