The attacker, Susan Sparman, a 48-year-old drug addict, was caught stealing alcohol from the store in Brixton. When confronted by the security guard, she waved the knife and slashed him on the hand, causing a significant injury.

Sparman was sentenced to four years in jail for robbery and knife possession after pleading guilty. The judge acknowledged that the robbery wasn't planned and the knife may have been for her protection but took into account her criminal record and the potential danger to the public.
