The General Secretary of the NIPSA trade union, Carmel Gates, has stated that civil servants feel they need to "make a bigger noise" and that cuts have already had a significant impact on services, with workers questioning whether they should remain in the public sector.

Gates has spoken to all of Northern Ireland's main political parties about the pay issue.
