Cineworld is preparing to emerge from bankruptcy proceedings after confirming it will file for administration.
The company's current CEO, Mooky Greidinger, is expected to step down, and a new CEO will be appointed.
Cineworld's syndicate of lenders will make a formal appointment, and Mr. Acuna's candidacy is still unclear.
The company has also appointed Eric Foss, a former Pepsi executive, as its new chairman.
Cineworld operates 128 sites in the UK, and its British cinema operations will not be impacted by the insolvency process for its holding company.
