Church of England Dismisses Independent Safeguarding Board Amidst Claims of Obstruction and Interference

The Church of England has dismissed the Independent Safeguarding Board (ISB), a panel of experts that provided independent oversight of the church's handling of abuse cases.

The Archbishops' Council confirmed that it was ending the contracts of all three board members, including acting chair Meg Munn, Jasvinder Sanghera, and Steve Reeves.

Ms. Sanghera and Mr. Reeves recently claimed that the Church had been obstructive and interfered with their work.

The Church stated that relations between it and senior bishops had broken down and referred to a dispute between two members of the ISB and the Church.

The ISB was set up in 2021 to hold the Church accountable for any failings in its handling of abuse cases.
