Taipei reported that a Chinese aircraft carrier group, including the Liaoning, was detected heading towards the Taiwan Strait after Beijing conducted a live-fire drill near Taiwan.

The carrier group was spotted near the Pratas Islands, southwest of Taiwan.

China's recent military activity, deemed a pressure tactic to claim sovereignty over Taiwan, included large-scale drills encircling the island.

Taiwan's military is monitoring the situation, while the US and Canadian ships passed through the Taiwan Strait, drawing Beijing's criticism.
