China Constructs Expansive Military Command Center Near Beijing
New facility spans 1,500 acres, significantly larger than the Pentagon
China is developing a vast military complex approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Beijing, according to reports from the Financial Times.
The facility, informally referred to as 'Beijing Military City,' spans about 1,500 acres and is expected to be significantly larger than the Pentagon.
Construction commenced in mid-2024, with satellite imagery revealing extensive underground bunkers designed to protect military leadership during conflicts, including potential nuclear scenarios.
The site is anticipated to serve as a wartime command center for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), aligning with China's ongoing efforts to modernize its military capabilities ahead of the PLA's centenary in 2027. The Chinese government has not publicly disclosed details about the project.
