Chelsea star shines as Blues get pre-season campaign underway with huge win

Chelsea got their pre-season campaign off and running with a comprehensive victory over Peterborough United at their training base at Cobham.

Thomas Tuchel fielded two different XIs in each half as he sought to give his entire squad some minutes after the summer break.

Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr and Davide Zappacosta were among those to start with Hakim Ziyech coming off the bench to score a hat-trick in a 6-1 win behind closed doors.

The Blues fell behind earlier on with Siriki Dembele opening the scoring from the penalty spot.

Tammy Abraham levelled however before Christian Pulisic scored a spot-kick of his own to ensure his side went into half-time in the lead.

Callum Hudson-Odoi also among those in action at Cobham

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher, Baba Rahman and Ziyech were among those on for the second-half with the Moroccan on the score sheet after firing home off the underside of the cross bar.

The former Ajax star grabbed another two with 19-year-old Broja also on target.

Chelsea are in pre-season action against Bournemouth, Arsenal and Tottenham in the coming weeks before taking on Villarreal in the Uefa Super Cup on 11 August.

The Blues then begin their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on 14 August.
