The migrants were taken aboard the vessel and cared for by medical staff.
The vessel, the Geo Barents, was on training exercises when it was called to conduct the rescue.
The migrants will be disembarked in the southern port of Bari, as assigned by Italian authorities.
Charities have criticized the Italian administration for its tough stance on illegal immigration, citing long journeys to ports of disembarkation.
