Chancellor Rachel Reeves has instructed the National Wealth Fund to pursue higher risk investment projects in an effort to bolster economic growth within the United Kingdom.

This directive aims to facilitate the unlocking of £70 billion in private investments.

Established in 2022, the National Wealth Fund plays a crucial role in the government's economic strategy, which includes an emphasis on reducing bureaucratic barriers that have been identified as impediments to growth.

Reeves emphasized that fostering an environment conducive to accelerated economic growth is essential to uphold long-term government spending objectives.

In line with this strategy, the Chancellor has announced an increase in the fund’s economic capital limit from £4.5 billion to £7 billion.

This enhancement is intended to enable the fund to absorb greater risks and support projects that may face challenges securing private funding.

The National Wealth Fund is set to focus more directly on investments in sectors associated with defense, following the government's earlier commitment to increase defense spending.

Reeves articulated her vision, stating, “My number one mission is kickstarting economic growth through our Plan for Change to make Great Britain a stronger, more resilient country and put more money into the pockets of working people.”

The Chancellor expressed her determination to expedite economic progress by channeling significant financial resources into the UK's industrial strengths, which she believes will generate high-skilled and well-compensated job opportunities across the nation.

In related developments, John Flint, the current head of the National Wealth Fund, has announced his resignation, with plans for a successor recruitment process already underway.
