The incident occurred in April near Cathays High School on North Road in Cardiff, and Mark Lang succumbed to his injuries more than two weeks later. Christopher El Gifari has pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter and theft but has denied the charge of robbery.
The court proceedings have indicated that the Crown does not accept the guilty pleas, and Christopher El Gifari will be tried for both murder and robbery. He is also accused of stealing Mr. Lang's van and its contents.
A jury has been selected for the trial, which is expected to last up to four weeks, with proceedings scheduled to commence on Wednesday.
