The family of Captain Sir Tom Moore, who gained fame for his fundraising efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, has lost a planning application appeal regarding the demolition of an unauthorized home spa in their garden.
Hannah Ingram-Moore, Captain Tom's daughter, and her husband appealed against a demolition order by Central Bedfordshire Council.
They had applied for permission to build the spa in 2021, which was initially approved, but a subsequent retrospective application for a larger building containing the spa was refused in 2022.
The Planning Inspectorate dismissed their appeal, citing concerns about the impact of the building on a Grade II listed property.
The family's decision to keep profits from Captain Tom's books, which amounted to £800,000, has also been a subject of public discussion. Hannah Ingram-Moore revealed that her father wanted the money to stay with the family and be used for charitable purposes.
Additionally, it was revealed that she received £70,000 in salary and expenses claims from the charity associated with Captain Tom's fundraising efforts.
