Cannabis users 'will have a new place within our society': Germany prepares to legalise home cultivation
Listen
Germany is set to decriminalize cannabis, allowing possession, home cultivation, and the establishment of private "cannabis clubs."
Starting April 1, adults can possess up to 25g in public, 50g at home, and grow up to three plants.
This change aims to reduce prosecutions and integrate cannabis users more fully into society.
Restrictions apply, including age limits and smoking bans near playgrounds and sports centers. THC potency will also be regulated.
The law intends to combat the black market and ensure product safety but faces opposition over health concerns and enforcement challenges.
If successful, it could lead to pilot projects for state-controlled cannabis sales in licensed shops.
