The Northern Ireland Assembly convened to address the case of Lisa Dorrian, a woman from Co Down who disappeared nearly 20 years ago.

Dorrian, then 25 years old, was last seen on February 28, 2005, at a caravan park in Ballyhalbert.

She is believed to have been murdered, yet her remains have never been found.

The Assembly heard heartfelt appeals for information from local politicians during a plenary session at Parliament Buildings, Stormont in Belfast.

North Down Alliance MLA Connie Egan emphasized the urgent need for information during her address to assembly members.

"Lisa’s disappearance shocked not just people from the area but those across Northern Ireland, a beautiful young woman with her whole life ahead of her, just disappeared," Egan stated.

She highlighted the impact of the case on Dorrian's family, noting that her mother, Patricia, passed away in 2015 without ever receiving answers or justice regarding her daughter's fate.

Egan urged anyone with knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Dorrian's disappearance to contact the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

Furthermore, Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MLA Stephen Dunne echoed Egan’s sentiments, calling for public assistance in locating Dorrian.

He underscored the emotional toll of her unresolved case on her family and community.

"For two decades, Lisa’s family has endured unimaginable pain and heartache, yet they have shown extraordinary courage, resilience, and determination in their quest for justice," he remarked.

Dunne reiterated the importance of community support in bringing closure to the family.

The continuing search for Lisa Dorrian has not only fueled ongoing discussions about her case but has also cast a spotlight on the broader issue of unresolved disappearances in Northern Ireland.

Both MLAs expressed solidarity with the Dorrian family and called for individuals who may possess potentially pivotal information to come forward as the anniversary of her disappearance approaches.
