BVI Ports Authority rebrands! Marks 30-year milestone

As the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) marks its 30 years of existence this year, the entity has created a brand new logo to identity with.

The new-look logo was unveiled via a virtual ceremony held today, Friday, September 18, 2020.

Acting Managing Director at the BVIPA, Mr Dean B. Fahie said the rebranding was necessary.

“This year marks our 30th anniversary and what better way to celebrate one’s birthday than with a new look! This modern and updated look will allow the VIPA to stand out from the crowd. As we turn 30, we need to reinvent ourselves in order to remain relevant in a rapidly changing COVID-19 era and market place,” he said.

Mr Fahie added it is this realisation that has driven it to take on a "new corporate identity. It is intended to incorporate the values that drive us, that represents us at the BVIPA,” he added.

The Acting Managing Director insisted that the rebranding was not just a “cosmetic change of logo and colours.”

“It is underpinned by a deep cultural change, both within the authority and by global markets. This refreshed brand is evident of our commitment to keep the BVI moving.”

Meaning behind symbol

Meanwhile, Chairman of the BVIPA Board of Directors, Mr Kelvin E. Hodge explained that the authority chose ‘the anchor’ symbol because it represents the best symbol of the sea that depicts stability and a 30-year foundation.

“The BVI Ports Authority has most certainly demonstrated its longevity. It is a symbol of hope when it is lifted from the waters from the port. It represents an adventure, a new voyage or journey. An anchor is raised when we enter a new era just as the ship is about to set sail.

"We are living in this new COVID era but we are alive and eager with anticipation and hope for what is to come. The anchor encourages us to follow the plotted course and carry on with our plans, to stay steadfast with our vision of the new dreams we have ahead of us,” Mr Hodge explained.

Acting Managing Director at the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), Mr Dean B. Fahie has said the rebranding is not just a 'cosmetic change of logo and colours'.

Premier and Minister responsible for Ports, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), who also delivered remarks, said: “I am pleased to see that even though our ports remain closed, as we continue the phased reopening of our borders, the chairman and his board, the director and his team continue to push forward and to plan and get ready for the new regular as visitors prepare to return to this Territory when we open for that category of persons which will be very soon.”

He continued: “Maintaining this Territory’s port service is a key part of our economic rebooting. It helps to facilitate business continuity through ports and shipping, which are an essential part of the socio-economic environment of this Territory.”
