BVI closing all local ports of entry for 14 days
The British Virgin Islands will be closing its borders for all travelling passengers including BVI nationals, effective midnight.
This is according to a publication issued by the Office of the Governor on social media Sunday, March 22.
It said: “Information for anyone intending to travel to BVI - effective this evening at 11:59 pm, all ports will be closed to incoming travellers for 14 days including nationals, Belongers, work permit holders and residents.”
“Port remains open for cargo and freight,” the Governor’s Office added.
This measure implemented by the government is one to help prevent the territory from being impacted by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The territory has not reported any confirmed cases of the virus to date.
In the meantime, at least one other jurisdiction in the region — Jamaica — implemented a similar measure in relation to closing its ports of entry. That country has also closed it’s air and sea ports for 14 days.
