Walker, the director of Motorhome Ireland Ltd., committed the fraud between August 2005 and August 2008, primarily targeting elderly and vulnerable individuals. He falsely promised to sell their motorhomes and return the proceeds or use them towards another vehicle.
Walker pled guilty to 16 dishonesty offences, including 14 counts of fraud by false representation. An audit revealed significant financial mismanagement, including unexplained payments to directors and retention of customer money. The total proceeds from the fraud amounted to about £418,495.
The impact of Walker's crimes was described as "devastating" to the victims, with substantial financial losses. Judge Gordon Kerr KC highlighted the length of time, the amount involved, and the number of victims as aggravating factors in the crime.
Walker, who initially denied wrongdoing, has also been barred from being a director of any limited company for 10 years. The judge noted the significant delay in the legal process (14 years) as a factor in reducing the sentence. Walker's guilty plea and expressed remorse were considered mitigating factors.
