The search for his successor has already begun with the help of the search firm Spencer Stuart.
Jansen is said to be considering job opportunities in the US, but his reasons for leaving are unknown.
He took the role in 2019 and oversaw a reshaping of the company, including a reduction of the workforce by 55,000 people and an acceleration in high-speed broadband investment.
Jansen's salary was frozen at £1.1m and his total pay last year was about £3m.
The board has not disclosed the reason for his departure.
Investors will now focus on the potential candidates to succeed Jansen.
