BT has admitted some customers were inadvertently signed up and billed for Xbox Game Pass, resulting in an unwarranted £10 monthly charge.

Customers were alarmed by the unsolicited addition to their internet bills and shared their concerns, describing the situation as "worrying."

Following discussions with the BBC, BT reimbursed the affected individuals and apologized, advising customers to monitor their accounts for any unusual activity and report it for support in securing their accounts.

The number of customers impacted and the cause of these erroneous charges remain unclear. Incidents have been reported ranging from recent discoveries to complaints from as early as October 2023.

Some customers became aware of the charge after receiving thank-you emails for activating the subscription they never initiated.

Among those affected, Sue from London and Matt from East Sussex both expressed concern that others might not notice the unauthorized charges.

Craig from Aberdeen learned via customer service chat that the issue stemmed from a glitch between BT and Microsoft, and it potentially affects a broader customer base.

BT urges any customer who identifies suspicious account changes to contact them immediately to receive assistance and a refund if applicable.
