British tech magnate Mike Lynch is among six missing people after the superyacht Bayesian sank off Porticello, Sicily, when a waterspout struck the area overnight.
Lynch, acquitted in a major U.S. fraud trial in June, was on the British-flagged yacht with 21 others.
The ship sank in 50-meter-deep water, close to Palermo.
One body was recovered, and 15 survivors were rescued, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares.
The yacht had a notable 75-meter mast and was available for rent at up to one hundred ninety-five thousand euros per week.
Authorities from the Italian coast guard, fire rescue, and civil protection are involved in the ongoing search operation.
