The victim and her friend were walking along the Champ-de-Mars when she went behind a bush, possibly to use the restroom. It was at this point that she was attacked by a man with a knife shortly before midnight on Monday.
The attacker allegedly jumped on the victim, attempted to rape her, and threatened her with the knife when she resisted. Sadly, the victim was unable to fend off the assailant, and he proceeded to rape her.
The French police swiftly responded to the incident, arresting a 35-year-old suspect approximately an hour later. The suspect was taken into custody overnight, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
This case is deeply concerning and highlights the importance of safety measures and vigilance, especially in public areas. The victim's profession as a British police officer adds another layer of significance to this tragic event, as it underscores that anyone can be a victim of such crimes, regardless of their background or occupation.
