A British man named Michael Whitbread, aged 74, has appeared in a UK court for extradition proceedings following his arrest in connection with the murder of a woman in Italy. Michele Faiers, 66, was found deceased at her home near Casoli, Italy.
Whitbread, who was apprehended in Shepshed, Leicestershire, has been asked to be extradited to face trial in Italy, where he resides. He has refused extradition and remains in custody until a preliminary hearing set for Thursday.
Whitbread is visiting relatives in England and had plans to return to Italy, as indicated by his travel ticket. The court acknowledged that while he is accused, he has not been convicted, but noted the gravity of the charges which could lead to a significant prison sentence if convicted.
A full hearing for his case is scheduled for 26 February of the next year.
