The plan includes investing 2.4 billion pounds over five years and increasing the number of medical school training places by 50%, adult nurse training places by 86%, and doctor training places by 49%.
The aim is to double the number of medical school places by 2031 and increase the overall number of doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals by 60,000, 170,000, and 71,000 respectively by 2036/37.
The plan also aims to reduce the proportion of staff recruited from overseas from 1 in 4 to 1 in 10.
The NHS will also introduce a scheme to help retain staff and improve staffing levels in social care.
The plan was welcomed by politicians and health experts, but the opposition Labour Party said it should have been delivered a decade ago.
