The couple had been on a global motorbike expedition, entering Iran from Armenia on December 30, 2022, and planning a brief five-day visit before traveling onward to Pakistan.
The Foreign Office, representing the couple’s family, confirmed that discussions are ongoing with relevant authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding their detention.
This situation has raised considerable concern among their family members.
A family statement expressed, "This unexpected turn of events has caused significant concern for our entire family, and we are deeply focused on ensuring their safety and wellbeing during this trying time."
The couple had previously shared positive experiences while in Iran, enjoying interactions with locals and exploring the culture.
Lindsay Foreman, a life coach and PhD holder in psychology, documented their travels, capturing her enthusiasm for the kindness and hospitality they encountered.
In her social media posts, she reflected on the universal aspects of humanity, emphasizing shared values over cultural differences.
Prior to their arrest, they traveled through various Iranian cities, including Tabriz, Tehran, and Isfahan, accompanied by a tour guide.
They were last reported to be on their way to Kerman but failed to check into their accommodation.
Their journey was intended to culminate in Australia, with plans for Mrs. Foreman to present findings from a research project at a conference on positive psychology in Brisbane this July.
The Iranian government has not disclosed the specific reasons for the couple's detention, which occurs amidst a backdrop of similar cases involving foreign and dual nationals arrested on vague security charges.
Human rights activists have criticized such actions as potential political leverage by the Iranian authorities.
The UK Foreign Office continues to advise British nationals against all travel to Iran, highlighting the risks associated with such visits.
As the family's ordeal continues, the Foreign Office has confirmed it is in touch with Iranian authorities and is providing consular assistance to the Foremans during this period.
A photograph circulated in media has shown the couple meeting with Hugo Shorter, the British ambassador, at the public prosecutor's office in Kerman during a brief visit before their detention came to light.
