British Cabinet On Alert as US Weighs Further Iran Action
Government readies defensive posture amid regional volatility
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has placed his cabinet on high alert in response to possible further US military strikes on Iran, particularly concerning shared use of the Diego Garcia air base.
The government convened its emergency COBRA committee to assess threats, commissioned legal advice on military involvement, and deployed protective measures for British assets in the Middle East.
While the UK supports Israel’s right to self‑defence and opposes Iran’s nuclear ambitions, it has stopped short of direct engagement, instead pressing for urgent de‑escalation and diplomatic resolution.
