German direct investment in the UK has declined, with the volume of investment falling 16.1% compared to 2016.
The UK has also slipped in importance as a trading partner for Germany, dropping from eighth to eleventh place.
The number of German companies active in the UK has also declined, with 5.2% fewer companies than in 2016.
However, many British companies have settled in Germany, with GTAI, an organization that helps international companies set up business in Germany, counting over 1,000 new businesses from the UK since the Brexit vote.
There were 170 new businesses from the UK in 2021 alone, with GTAI expecting inquiries from the UK to remain at a high level.
Despite the challenges, Germany's size and central location are an advantage in attracting UK companies.
