The highlight of the garden is a 400-year-old illuminated castle. Beyond the seasonal treats like hot chocolate and sweets, the experience offers health benefits such as increased happiness, according to environmental psychologist Armin-Laszlo Halbach from the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam's Research Institute for Sustainability.

He emphasizes the importance of reconnecting with nature for mental restoration and decision-making, especially during winter when indoor activity increases.

This connection is deemed ever more vital against the backdrop of climate change. With early sunsets now around 4 PM, the zoo offers a luminous escape from the dark winter evenings. The Christmas garden is open to visitors until January 14th.
