The police in Belfast are investigating whether any paramilitary groups are linked to the erection of anti-immigration signs in the city. The signs, which were placed in the Belvoir estate, are being treated as a "hate incident."

They contain offensive language and express opposition to the re-housing of immigrants. The Housing Executive reported the signs to the police, and local officials have condemned the offensive messaging.

Interim Chief Constable Jon Boutcher stated that any activity meant to intimidate communities is unacceptable and emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated.

The police are also increasing their visibility in the area to provide reassurance to the community. Similar incidents have occurred in Glengormley and Newtownabbey.
