Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, a private army of mercenaries, is in Russia, according to Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Prigozhin led a short-lived rebellion in Russia last month, and charges against him were dropped as part of a deal to end the stand-off.

Prigozhin was offered the move to Belarus, but Lukashenko now says he is in St Petersburg, not on the territory of Belarus.

The Belarus leader also offered several Soviet-era military sites for the use of Wagner fighters, but said they have not yet been resolved.

Lukashenko stated that if the need arises, the Wagner fighters would be used to defend Belarus.

The Belarusian leader also dismissed any potential threat of a Wagner-led mutiny in Belarus.

In summary, a group of Russian fighters known as Wagner traveled towards Moscow, leading to tighter security in the region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin later announced that several pilots were killed during a mutiny and several aircraft were destroyed.

Putin initially accused the group of treason, but a deal was made to end the mutiny, with the group's leader being promised security and the Russian criminal case against Wagner being dropped.

The group's fighters were given the option to either sign regular army contracts, go home, or head to Belarus.

Recent satellite images have shown what looks like tents being erected at a former military base close to Minsk, but it is unclear if this has happened yet.
