The bank, seeking to enhance its profitability, has informed employees about the potential layoffs. While Barclays didn't specify the number of job reductions, it referenced its previous statement about intending to lower expenses.

The bank aims to streamline its structure, boost services, and increase returns, partly by reducing managerial levels and enhancing technological efficiency.

Reports suggest Barclays may cut up to 2,000 jobs as part of a broader strategy to save around £1 billion. Barclays CEO C.S. Venkatakrishnan is hastening these cost-saving measures to present a more detailed plan at an investor briefing in February, focusing on reducing costs and growing revenue.
